Tri Clamp Sizing

Tri Clamp sizes are determined by the outer diameter (or OD) of the pipe or tubing, not the diameter of the flange or Tri Clamp itself. Typically, the flange of a Tri Clamp fitting is about a ½” inch larger than the outside diameter of the pipe. This can become confusing when the Tri Clamp fitting doesn't have a pipe attached to it, like most adapters. For example, a 1.5" Tri Clamp to 1" Male NPT Adapter, is not 1.5" inches in any dimension, but the Tri Clamp end will fit any other 1.5" Tri Clamp fitting.

One thing to consider when dealing with smaller pipe diameters is that some smaller diameter piping uses flanges for a larger diameter pipe, for example the 1" Sanitary Spool uses the same flanges as the 1.5" Sanitary Spool.

If you are having trouble finding the correct size of your Tri Clamp fitting, simply measure the outside diameter of the flange (dimension "B" below) and consult the chart below, or feel free to contact us .
